Guo Shuqing Is Elected as Chairman of China Construction Bank Corporation

On March 25, 2005, China Construction Bank Corporation (CCB) held its 2nd extraordinary shareholders meeting and its sixth meeting of the 1st board of directors (the 3rd 2005 meeting) in Beijing.

At the extraordinary shareholders meeting and the meeting of the board of directors, Guo Shuqing was elected as director and chairman of China Construction Bank Corporation. And now this decision is reported to competent authorities to be examined and approved.。
Guo Shuqing ever worked in the State Planning Commission and the State Development and Reform Commission, and was appointed as Vice Governor of Guizhou Province, Vice Governor of the People’s Bank of China and Director of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange. Shareholders and board directors believe, Guo Shuqing has drawn affluent experiences from his past positions in terms of strategic reform and innovation, and he as Chairman of CCB will absolutely play an important role in promoting CCB’s transformation and internationalization process.

At present, CCB is engaging in stockholding reform program and is ready to seize the opportunity to promote its shareholding reform program in all aspects in the light of the national decision.

Resume of Guo Shuqing

Guo Shuqing, male, was born in August of 1956 in Inner Mongolia. He was Vice Governor of the People’s Bank of China, Director of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange, and Chairman of the Central Huijin Investment Company. Now he is Chairman of China Construction Bank Corporation and the Secretary of the CPC Committee of China Construction Bank Corporation. And he is also a member of the tenth national committee of CPPCC.

Guo Shuqing studied in the philosophy department of Nankai University and the graduate school of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences from March of 1978 to March of 1985. He was an assistant researcher of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences from March of 1985 to February of 1988, and at the same time he read for J. D. degree, and went to University of Oxford as a visiting scholar during this period. He was appointed as deputy director of the Economic Research Center of State Planning Commission, director of the Comprehensive Planning and Pilot Department of State Commission for Restructuring Economy and director of the Macro Control Department of State Commission for Restructuring Economy successively from July of 1988 to March of 1996. He served as the secretary of State Commission for Restructuring Economy from March of 1996 to March of 1998 and the member of Office for Economic Restructuring of the State Council. In July of 1998, Guo Shuqing was elected as Deputy Governor of Guizhou Province at the third session of the People’s Congress of Guizhou Province. In March of 2001, he became Deputy Governor of the People’s Bank of China and Director of the State Administration Foreign Exchange. And in December of 2003, he was elected as Chairman of the Central Huijing Investment Company.
